More than 100 crop insurance leaders gathered for the 2015 Crop Insurance and Reinsurance Bureau Annual Meeting, which ended Friday in Bonita Springs, FL. Speakers explored the “Charting the Course” theme and discussed the future of the farm safety net. The program included a policy forecast, an outlook on climate change, and a panel discussion on Big Data’s impact on crop insurance. “It is critical that decision makers understand the important role that crop insurance plays in rural America, and those of you in this room are essential to the delivery of that message,” CIRB Chair Sheri Bane said. “I am proud of how far CIRB has come and firmly believe our organization is well-equipped to chart the course for our industry into the future.” Click here to read more. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL) was recognized with the 2015 Chairman’s Award, CIRB’s highest honor. Representing Illinois’ District 14, Congressman Davis serves on the House Agriculture Committee and is a champion for farmers and a strong crop insurance program. Click here to learn more.

2014: Crop Insurance Leaders Look to the Future

CIRB 50 logoIn February 2014 – just as the new farm bill was signed into law – crop insurance leaders gathered to celebrate the Crop Insurance and Reinsurance Bureau’s 50th Anniversary and discuss what the future holds for the farm safety net. Speakers shared insights on a wide variety of topics, from “Big Data” to the impact of new precision agriculture technologies. CIRB’s Chairman’s Award, the organization’s highest honor, was presented to Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS), to recognize his work in building crop insurance into what it is today – the cornerstone of farmers’ risk management programs. “Today, crop insurance is the foundation of farm risk management,” CIRB Chairman Greg Mills said. “But we must remember that future policies that are put in place in Washington will have real consequences on our industry, our customers, and ultimately, the public. That’s why we must ensure that our decision makers understand the important service crop insurance provides.” Read more. 2014 Meeting Presentations can be found here.

2013: Navigating the Future of Crop Insurance

2013-resort-imageAgriculture leaders emphasized crop insurance’s critical role as the cornerstone of federal farm policy during CIRB’s 49th annual meeting in February 2013. “Crop insurance is the foundation of the farm safety net,” CIRB Chairman Greg Mills said. “The past two years of devastating drought demonstrate the importance of preserving this critical risk management tool for farmers – and we must ensure that our lawmakers hear and understand this success story.” Read More. 2013 Meeting Presentations can be found here.

CIRB recognized Linda Vickers of RCIS for her years of service with the Chairman’s Award during its 2013 Annual Meeting. The current chair and ranking members of the House and Senate Agriculture Committees sent along their congratulations to Linda by video, below.
